SSECON 2017 was hosted by its organizing committee and sponsored by Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Public Safety and Security, Seoul Metropolitan Government, Gyeonggi-do, and Korea Defense Industry Trade Support Center.

At the opening ceremony on 15th March, Mr. Lim, Jongin - Chairman of the SECON Organising Committee, Mr. Choi, Jaeyou - 2nd Vice Minister of Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Mr. Jang, Younghwan - Director-General, Ministry of Interior and Mr. Baik, Keeseung - President of Korean Internet & Security Agency graced the occasion with their presence. Also, related organizations including Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and other government personnel attended the ceremony.

This year, more than 500 companies and 50,000 visitors from 15 different countries are expected to attend the event. Hikvision and Dahua Technology, China’s top two video security enterprises, together with other global security enterprises such as GUNNEBO, FLIR Systems, Optex, KUMAHIRA, Honeywell, HID Global and the leading security enterprises from Korea including Samsung S-1 Corporation, Hanwha Techwin, Kumho Petrochemical and Suprema all introduced the latest security trends and showcased new technologies and products.

EGISEC Fair 2017, a co-located event with SECON 2017 provided visitors opportunity to experience ‘e-Government solution’, which is a highly influential product exported to developing countries such as Southeast Asia and Africa. The Ministry of Interior (MOI), Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MISP), Korean Internet & Security Agent (KISA) and Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI) who are all handling the e-Government service, exhibited their R&D achievements which were developed for the cyber security improvement. Also, Lotte Data Communication and Igloo Security demonstrated their privacy protection solutions and anti-hacking security solutions.

Remarkably, about 1,000 meetings were requested and 200 meetings were pre-arranged amongst exhibitors, visitors, and buyers, through the new online business meeting matching platform. The platform was developed through cooperation with the UBM Group; well known as the organiser of ‘IFSEC International’, and one of the biggest exhibition company in the world.

The single-person household security experiencing center attracted many visitors. Home CCTVs, IoT devices, and other security self-defense equipment were displayed for as the number of single-households in Korea is increasing. At the ‘Drone hacking experience centre’, important issues such as the snatching of pictures and videos, and illegal taking control by hacking the wireless signal were highlighted at the conference. Moreover, visitors were able to check the possibility of the combination between security and virtual reality which is highly recognised nowadays at the VR experiencing centre.

Beyond the exhibition, the trends and current condition of domestic and international security industry were discussed and the development direction of the industry were forecasted in a high-content conference programme.

Due to the event’s success, SECON 2018 will be held from 14-16 March 2018 at KINTEX, Hall 4-5 to offer more chances to grow the business in Korea. More than 100 booths have already confirmed and reserved by the existing exhibitors. More bookings are expected.
